Simple Discipleship Terms of Service
Effective date: September 3, 2026
Last updated: September 3, 2026
Welcome to Simple Discipleship. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Simple Discipleship ("we," "us," or "the app") that governs your use of the Simple Discipleship mobile app and website. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy at https://simplediscipleship.org/privacy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
We've written these in plain language. They're still a binding agreement, so please read them.
1. Who can use Simple Discipleship
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you should use the app with a parent or guardian's permission. By using the app you confirm that you meet these requirements and that any information you give us is accurate.
2. Your account
You're responsible for keeping your login secure and for everything that happens under your account. Don't share your password or let anyone else use your account. If you think your account has been accessed without permission, contact us right away at info@SimpleDiscipleship.org.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. See our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data when you do.
3. What the app is (and isn't)
Simple Discipleship helps you read the Bible, follow reading plans, keep reflections, and walk through discipleship with a small group or church. It is a tool for spiritual growth and community. It is not a substitute for professional counseling, medical care, or emergency services. If you or someone in your group is in crisis, please contact local emergency services or a qualified professional.
4. Your content
"Your content" means anything you post or create in the app: reflections, journal entries, prayer requests, group posts, your profile, and similar material.
You own it. Your content stays yours.
You give us permission to show it. So the app can work, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and share your content within the app as you direct - for example, showing a prayer request to the members of the group you posted it in. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content you've shared with a group, which may remain visible to that group without your name attached, and for copies in routine backups.
You're responsible for it. Only post content you have the right to post, and make sure it follows the Community Guidelines below.
We don't claim ownership of your content and we never sell it.
5. Community Guidelines
Simple Discipleship is meant to be a safe, encouraging place. When you post or interact with others, you agree not to:
Harass, bully, threaten, or intimidate anyone.
Post hateful content or attack people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, age, sex, or any other characteristic.
Post sexually explicit, violent, or graphic content.
Post spam, advertising, scams, or repeated unsolicited messages.
Impersonate another person, church, or organization, or misrepresent who you are.
Share someone else's private information (including prayer requests shared in confidence) outside the group without their permission.
Post anything illegal or that encourages illegal activity.
Use the app to solicit money from other users without a group leader's knowledge.
Group leaders may set additional expectations for their group. If you believe someone has broken these guidelines, use the Report option on the post or profile, or email us. You can also Block a user to stop seeing their content.
We review reports and may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate accounts that violate these guidelines, at our discretion and without prior notice. We aim to act on reports within 24 hours.
6. Groups and churches
Groups are created and led by their own leaders, who decide who may join and may remove members. Churches listed in the app are independent organizations; listing a church does not mean we endorse it or that it endorses us. We are not responsible for what happens inside a group or church, but we do expect everyone to follow the Community Guidelines, and we will step in when they're broken.
7. Bible text and licensed content
Bible translations in the app are provided under license from their publishers (for example, the New International Version from Biblica and the New American Standard Bible from The Lockman Foundation) and from platforms such as YouVersion. Scripture text is provided for your personal reading and study within the app.
You may not copy, scrape, download, redistribute, or republish Bible text or other licensed content from the app except for the short quotations that publishers ordinarily permit, and except through the app's own sharing features. Publishers' copyright notices appear in the app and must not be removed.
Reading plans, milestone content, artwork, and the app's design are owned by Simple Discipleship or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws.
8. Acceptable use
In addition to the Community Guidelines, you agree not to:
Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the app's source code.
Interfere with the app's operation, security, or other users' access.
Use bots, scripts, or automated tools to access the app or its data.
Attempt to access data or accounts that are not yours.
Use the app for any commercial purpose without our written permission.
9. Third-party services
The app uses services from other companies, including Apple, Google, Supabase, Expo, Google Maps, and Bible text providers, to work. Your use of those services may be subject to their own terms, and we are not responsible for them. Links to outside websites are provided for convenience only.
10. Changes to the app
We are always improving Simple Discipleship. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or discontinue the app at any time. If we plan to shut the app down, we will make reasonable efforts to tell you in advance so you can export or save your reflections.
11. Termination
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if continuing to provide the service to you creates risk for us or other users. Sections 4, 7, 12, 13, and 14 survive termination.
12. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't promise the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that Bible text and other content will be free of mistakes. Spiritual guidance in the app, including reading plans and reflections from other users, reflects the views of its authors and is not professional advice.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Simple Discipleship and the people who make it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, goodwill, or opportunity, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to fifty U.S. dollars ($50). Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If we have a disagreement, we'd like to resolve it directly first - please contact us. If that doesn't work, any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Mobile County, Alabama, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
15. Apple and Google
If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Simple Discipleship only, not with Apple or Google. Apple and Google have no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and are not responsible for any claims relating to it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top and notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new Terms.
